What to Ask For

What a complete assessment covers, what treatment looks like, and how to ask for both

Six domains, one reading

Select a domain.

ORIGIN assesses each domain in sequence, because each finding changes how the next is read. Tap a number on the wheel or a domain below.

Domain 01

Microbiome

Salivary analysis of the bacterial community and the specific pathogens with documented systemic associations.

Domain 02

TMJ & function

The jaw joints, the bite and how the system moves under load.

Domain 03

Neuromuscular

The muscles of the head and neck, pain patterns and the signals driving them.

Domain 04

Imaging

Structural views of joints, bone and airway that the eye cannot see in the chair.

Domain 05

Airway

Breathing pattern, airway anatomy and sleep-disordered breathing risk.

Domain 06

Biomarkers

Inflammatory and stress markers, including salivary cortisol, that place the oral findings in the context of the whole person.

A book that changes nothing on Monday has failed. Part VI turns the argument into an assessment, a treatment sequence, and a short list of things a reader can ask for at their next appointment.

The centerpiece is ORIGIN, the precision oral-systemic assessment the book conceptualizes. Rather than examining teeth, bite and muscles in isolation, ORIGIN reads six domains together, in a deliberate order, because each one changes how the next is interpreted.

Part VI then answers the question a reader has been holding since the peptide chapters: what would actually happen to me. It walks through treatment week by week. It widens to the longevity frame: the hallmarks of aging25, low-grade chronic inflammation24 and the brain's overnight clearance system, which depends on sleep23. It closes with what to do next.

ORIGIN™: Precision Oral-Systemic Assessment

The full protocol, domain by domain, and the order in which each domain informs the next.

21

What Treatment Actually Looks Like

Week by week, with the sequence and the reasoning.

22

Dentistry in the Longevity Era

The hallmarks of aging, inflammaging, overnight brain clearance, and why the jaw and airway are not peripheral to it.

What to Do Monday Morning

What to ask for, and what to expect when you ask.

Chapter 20 · The assessment

ORIGIN™

The mouth read as a window on the whole body. Six domains, assessed in sequence, combined into a single picture of systemic risk.

ORIGIN starts from the premise of the book: the mouth is where breathing, the microbiome, the jaw and chronic inflammation meet, so assessing any one of them alone produces a partial answer. The order matters. Microbiome findings change how gum inflammation is read; airway findings change how grinding and joint pain are read; biomarkers place everything in the context of the whole person.

The book presents ORIGIN as a standard a reader can ask for, from any qualified practitioner. It is offered at Core Smiles in New York. The interactive wheel at the top of this page walks through each domain.

At your next appointment

Six questions worth asking.

You do not need a new dentist to start. You need better questions.

  1. Do you screen for sleep-disordered breathing, and how?
  2. Can my saliva be tested, and what would the result change?
  3. Is my grinding being treated as a habit or investigated as a sign?
  4. Which mouthwash, if any, makes sense for me, and why?
  5. How will my findings reach my physician?
  6. If you recommend a regenerative treatment, what is the evidence, and what is its regulatory status today?
